Job Purpose:

Job Description:

Animal Recovery Veterinary Referral Centre

Associate Veterinarian

Job Description:
The position at Animal Recovery Veterinary Referral Centre (ARVRC) involves mostly small animals, of which canines and felines predominate. However, we also see rabbits, turtles, hamsters, chinchillas, birds, etc. Each day starts with evaluation of each hopsitalised patient, updating their plan for treatment, then consultations start. The work ranges from general practice – vaccinations, skin/ear problems, sterilisations, dentals, etc, to difficult second opinion cases. We see quite a few emergencies through our after-hours service as well. Each week, more complicated cases can involved acute collapse, severe trauma, sudden onset neurological disease (seizures, spinal problems), anaemia work-up and transfusions, etc. We endeavor to work as a team and maintain strong communication with each other through case discussions.

The working hours are negotiable, of which a minimum of 40hours per week must be worked. Salary will commensurate with experience and amount of hours worked, but is above industry standards.

The practice is close to the central area of Singapore. Our clients are quite knowledgeable and we are blessed that many are willing to go the distance in treating their pets.

The ideal candidate will be competent in small animal general medicine and surgery, but should be looking to further his/ her skills (or already competent) in a particular speciality- surgery, imaging, oncology, etc.

Marine Biologist cum Veterinarian

The incumbent will be responsible for the proper husbandry and care of the marine animal collection: the maintenance of current live marine animal exhibits, taking up the exciting challenge of developing new exhibits, contributing to marine animal and conservation projects through:

(1) Reviewing and compilation of materials on new or existing animal species

Veterinary Technician

Manager (Slaughterhouses)

(1) To conduct inspections with the objective of ensuring food animals slaughtered in the slaughterhouses are wholesome and safe for human consumption.
(2) Manage and oversee inspection operations of the pig abattoir/poultry slaughterhouses to ensure a continuous supply of safe and wholesome meat for consumers.
(3) Conduct ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections of animals.
(4) Supervise audit inspection of the abattoir to ensure that it complies with the Wholesome Meat and Fish (WMF) Act. by ensuring that high standards of operational hygiene are met.
(5) Monitor and manage contingency control measures to contain disease outbreaks in imported livestock through trends in food borne diseases.
(6) Periodically review the sampling protocol of carcasses to monitor the levels of drugs and harmful pathogens.
(7) Assist with the formulation, implementation and regular review of inspection and surveillance programmes.
(8) Liaise with the abattoir management on matters pertaining to hygiene, sanitation and maintenance of the facilities.
(9) Monitor the Hog Auction Market operation and price trends to ensure that there are no abuses in the Hog Auction system.
(10) Monitor the performance, train and motivate the inspectorate staff to maintain a consistently high standard of meat inspection and hygiene control at all the slaughterhouses. Train staff to recognize exotic and notifiable diseases such as Foot and Mouth disease, Nipah virus, among others.

Animal Enrichment Officer

(1) Oversee all animal enrichment and training (Positive Reinforcement Training) programmes
(2) Develop and monitor existing and new enrichment and training protocols
(3) Work very closely with curators, animal keepers, vets in animal enrichment and training programmes
(4) Develop enrichment programmes and protocols which can be easily implemented, sustained and integrated into daily keeper routine

(1) Degree preferably in Animal Related Science
(2) Preferably with experience in captive wildlife husbandry
(3) Good understanding of environmental enrichment and operant conditioning techniques
(4) Excellent people skills, ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) across all staff levels
